Nurturing Sustainable Livelihoods: Empowering Communities through Rabbit Farming in Kasese and Soroti Dioceses
We also initiated a rabbits project for parishes and started with Kasese and Soroti dioceses. Our goal is for all families in the Diocese to be raising rabbits in five years. Rabbits are faster growing animals whose gestation period is generally 28-30 days. Starts rabbit farming requires very little investments.
We are giving 18 rabbits to each parish (3 males and 18 females) and we hope these will multiply so that all parishioners receive.When the parish colony grows to 96 rabbits, the parish will give 6 rabbits (1 male and 5 females) to each Self Help Group leader. When the SHG leader colony grows to 18 rabbits, the SHG leaders will give 6 rabbits to her SHG members. We encourage everyone to eat only excess males.
